Lebanon City History
The city of Lebanon was incorporated in 1885, but prior to that date it was know as “Steitztown”, named after it’s original founder George Steitz in 1740. The community was named for the cedar trees growing here, reminding settlers of the "cedars of Lebanon". Lebanon City is located east of Harrisburg, north of Lancaster and west of Reading cities, and just off the Pennsylvania Turnpike. As an historic location, Lebanon City boasts many archictural buildings of significance, often dating back to the 1800’s and some into the 1700’s.
Lebanon City also has 10 parks and numerous walking paths available to city residents, along with a large community swimming pool, picnic areas, public pavilions and tennis courts. The Community of Lebanon Association sponsors regular street-level events that attract many visitors to Lebanon City.

Lebanon County is a county located in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. Though the first settlers were located there in 1723, it was officially created in 1813 from parts of Dauphin County and Lancaster County. As of 2000, the population is 120,327, with a 2004 estimate of 124,489. Its county seat is Lebanon. Lebanon County is part of the Lebanon Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Harrisburg–Carlisle–Lebanon Combined Statistical Area. It is located in south central Pennsylvania approximately 25 miles east of the state capital of Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the county has a total area of 363 square miles, of which, 362 square miles of it is land and 1 square miles of it (0.20%) is water. Its average annual temperature is 50 degrees and average precipitation is almost 36 inches.
